Love, Magic and Food

Health, Happiness, Creativity and Love - these are the complete point of using Magic in the Kitchen. If these words were put in in order by their points on the pentagram, Love would be the pinnacle. Rural traditions tell us that clockwise, the direction the sun moves through the sky, is the best way to mix any meal and the health of those we are cooking for. You might notice that most people without thinking, stir their soups and stews clockwise. No one mentions it because, it just happens. Right?

It is little known that different foods are even associated with different gods and goddess's. Some examples would be the strawberry, with the Norse goddess of Love, Freya. And hazelnuts for the Norse god Thor.

Want to increase the strength of your present relationship? The combination of eggs and cheese has been "loved" for aeons. And magically speaking the basic energies of any egg dish will be for health, fertility or hidden strength. Cheese is love, protection, change and tenacity.

Here is lovely breakfast for people who want to reinforce their commitment to each other, two being the number of harmony in relationships. When properly prepared the cooked eggs look like golden suns rising out of the snow (the egg whites). This is a particular favorite of my husband and I as we are of the Norse, "North Men" persuasion.

Dash of nutmeg                       2 slices buttered toast
2 eggs separated                     2 slices cheese (your preference)

Preheat the broiler. Combine the nutmeg and egg white; beat until stiff. Spread over toast. Make a small indentation in the center; drop the egg yolk. Sprinkle with salt. Cover the yolk with a slice of cheese. Broil until the egg is completely cooked and the cheese is melted. 3 - 5 minutes yield 2 servings.

Variation: use white cheese over the egg for a lunar effect to use moon magic.

I wish you much success on blending love and happiness into your loved ones dishes.
Freya Bless,
Lory

Viking Love and Courtship

Viking legend is full of tales of heroes falling in love with beautiful women and of other women abandoning their absent husbands for mightier warriors. It is the stuff that fairy tales are written about.

Ever wonder where Hans Christian Anderson got the idea for "Sleeping beauty?" Brunhilde, who was a Valkyrie, was told by Odin to go down to Midgard, Earth and bring back a specific Warrior to Valhalla. To do this the warrior had to be killed, as this was the job of Valkyries to bring back the slain warriors. Brunhilde fell in love with the warrior and could not face the thought of him being killed. When Odin learned of her failed mission he put her into a permanent sleep. He then surrounded her with vinelike thorns to protect her from prying eyes and a kiss that could awaken her. The thorns are thought to be the Thurisaz Rune which is in the shape of a thorn and symbolizes protection.

For ordinary Norse people courtship and marriage was less dramatic, occaisonally a matter of love, but more often an arranged match. Today the Christian church considers a man and woman living together as a sin. But in the days of the North men, trial marraiges were entered into at Lughnasadh and lasted until the following Beltain, enabling couples to get to know one another during the long dark winter.

Traditionally, if the relationship was unhappy, it was broken off at Beltain, although this was also the season young  lovers came together. Marriages were common after harvest time, since farmers could assess weather they were able to afford a wife.

Love Charms To Kick Your Relationship up a Notch!

Many of us at one time or another feel that our love life could use a little help; be it either attracting a new lover or taking an old relationship and "Kicking it up a notch! Babam!"

I create "Freya Magic Love Boxes" for just these very intentions. And speaking for myself and for my friends who have used them, I can tell you that with the proper emotion behind them, they DO WORK. And sexual attraction and Love are two of the strongest emotions there are.

Following the path of Northern Magic, I am interested in practicing "bind" runes. These are 3 runes used together for each charm desired. In attracting a Lover the the runes used are: Kenaz, Jera and Inguz. Jera relates to the realm of Midgard, one of the nine worlds in Norse Myth. The realm of Midgard, is used to draw power for all workings associated with Love.

It makes little difference if the magician is male or female. But if the operator is male and wishes to attract a female, the Inguz rune could be replaced by Thurisaz or Teiwaz as both these runes have associations with sexuality.

The second Charm is similar to the above but rather than a transient relationship it is for a more long lasting nature such as marriage. It helps sustain the attraction and the allure. The runes to use here are Gebo, Inguz and Ehwaz. Inguz is the the most predominant rune of the Vanir and the Vanaheim. Freya the Goddess of Love comes from the Vanir. And Inguz is used to invoke the blessings of the Vanir on the relationship you wish to sustain. Gebo, shaped like and "X" symbolizes the give and take of a relationship. And Ehwaz is the accepted rune of Marriage.

To put these spells and bind runes into practice you should create a carved bind rune of the desired 3 runes.  A circle should be cast. But before casting the circle a cleansing ritual sprinkling salt and water should be done.

A candle, symbolizing a torch should be lit. And incense if you prefer. The appropriate day for Love spells is Friday, Freya's day. Meditate on Freya, the Goddess of Love and Prosperity. Freya will be found in the western quarter of the circle as she represents the maiden and the element of water. Make a heartfelt plea to Freya for your intention.

At the close thank her and bid her farewell with love. Be firm in your resolve that your Love thought form is doing it's job.

I wish you much luck in your endeavors. E-mail me for more information.
Freya Bless,

How to Give Your Love Life a Quantum Leap!

Welcome to my Blog! I am a follower of the Northern path.  As well being as a daughter of Freya. Freya  is the mistress of Love, Magic and "Enchantment." I would like to start by giving you a little Magical "gift" in the way of a ritual or "spell" to add some oomph to your love life.

This is best performed during a waxing moon ( when the moon is building) and on a Friday night as Friday is "Freya's Day!"

Anoint your brow, heart and genital with your favorite love oil. I like rose, cinnamon or rosemary. All the while visualize your perspective Lover, that is if you have one picked out, if not then visualize the features of the Lover you would like.  You are building a "Thought form" here to manifest itself on the physical plane. Looking at yourself in the Mirror,

Chant 3 times:
"Now this oily essence Fair,
Adds great power to the Air,
Attracting Spirits of the Light.
Bring me Love both day and Night.
This spell and Charge are true you see,
And as my will so mode it be."

Now Chant 3 times:
"Freya, goddess of love hear my cry,
With out true love my soul will die.
Freya love goddess come to me,
And bring the Love I ache to see,
Venus, Cupid, Eros hear
This Call I send you loud and clear.
Odin, Thor and mighty Zeus,
This invocation to you is for good use.
Bring a Love that's strong and bold,
I charge you Mighty Gods of Old.
My true love Must Now come to me,
And as my will so mode it Be."

Complete your ritual by giving heartfelt thanks to all the spirits and elementals who have participated and dismiss them with love. Tell them to go forth in peace and harm no one on their way. And to all the Gods of Old give them loving thanks for all their help and love.
Blessed Be!

I would be happy to hear of your progress towards a loving relationship.

And Brightest of Blessings to You!
Lory
